At the end of Zen Buddhist teacher Thich Nhãt Hanh’s book Love Letter to Earth (2013) there are a series of love letters, one of which begins: “Dear Mother Earth, every time I step upon the Earth I will train myself to see that I am walking on you, my mother. Every time I place my feet on the Earth. I have a chance to be in touch with you and with all your wonders.” Try writing your own planetary love letter, working in promises, apologies, frustrations, questions, or musings. If we all started thinking this way, we might realize that what we do to nature, we ultimately do to ourselves.
